welcome back. we ended on a rough one, didn't we? poor optimisation, WAY too many mods and overall a pretty poor modpack. up until now, with ONWARD built from the ground up and with way less bloat!
additions
- added progressive difficulty. the difficulty of your world will increase more over time
- enemies can appear in groups and will be much harder to defeat
- added the "Undead Army" raid
- when you kill a certain amount of undead enemies (e.g. zombies), the Undead Army raid will begin
- this has up to 5 waves and will reward the player(s) with a treasure bag after completing it
- added bleeding
- the more armour you have equipped, the less likely you are to bleed
- bleeding becomes more deadly with each stage
- bandages are highly recommended, as they will stop you from bleeding out
- added spears and copper tools introduced in later versions of Minecraft
- added ore piles
- added aircrafts
- take to the skies with a biplane, airship, whatever you desire!
- added item rarities
- this applies explicitly to tools, weapons, etc
- there's much more, by all means go explore!
gameplay tweaks
- world generation has been changed
- this does mean your legacy worlds won't work as intended with v2.0b and above unfortunately
- ONWARD is now primarily a progression based modpack
- need not to worry! progression is simple and fairly quick
- gradually, progressing does get harder however
- changed the way Level XP is gained to a much simpler system
- instead of assigning yourself to a job, gaining XP can be as simple as chopping down trees
- the amount of XP you gain varies on the task you are doing. for example, mining will gain you least XP. fighting will gain you most XP
- maximum level has been capped to 240
- player/mob footprints now show on the ground temporarily
- experience ores are slightly different
- accepts stone pickaxes and up
- has an extremely high chance to grant you Level XP.
visual & audio changes
not a lot to note here. shaders and visuals are the same.
- enhanced the shader look
- shadows, reflections, etc. all customisable to look how you want!
- you can download the shader standalone @ ONWARD Shader!
performance
this is by far the most important update.
- majorly cut down boot up time
- FPS is much more consistent; less intensive tasks happening
- chunks load much more quicker
- reduced mod count by 100+ mods
- 336 mods (previous version) to 215 mods (new version)
- overall ONWARD is way less intensive and easier to run
other changes
- completely ditched Essential mod.
- i haven't got anything much against Essential; i think it's a great mod! but it caused some problems with the new UI.
- i also don't like the fact that you have microtransactions. sure, it's not for ONWARD but it's still a little annoying.
- as a result, we now use e4mc.
- you may encounter connection issues. don't worry, you just need to rehost.
upcoming
- expect primarily game and shader fixes.
- the overall state of ONWARD is looking very good. i just need to iron out some of the issues with it.

feel that? yeah, i added temperature. now you can feel the freezing cold and the burning hot atmosphere. think that's it? nah, i also added a bit more!
changelog
additions
- added temperature
- you can now freeze or burn to death. that's about it, really. keep an eye on your temps!!
- added thirst
- just one more thing to worry about, eh?
- no need to worry! every new world you spawn with a water canteen.
- this is still given to players on existing worlds.
- added chalk
- chalk comes in different colours and is used to mark places you have been. or use them for decoration!
- added flintlock guns!
- sure, not as good as modern day guns, but you can't complain over that surely?
- skeletons can wield these btw
- a starter kit is now provided on new worlds!
- you're now given an empty water canteen and some food, although not a lot, and a flint knife.
- starter kits are still granted to players on existing worlds.
- added more biomes!
- added an in-game changelog!
- basically shows you what you're seeing right now! neat, right?
- added Controlify! now you have controller support :)
- this does mean Steam Deck support IS possible; it's just that it's not recommended yet.
gameplay tweaks
- torches can be picked up via right clicking
- leaves are much more forgiving
- falling from shorter heights aren't as lethal
- jumping from greater heights cause you to fall straight through leaves
- tweaked many of the mobs (w/ examples)
- for example, phantoms are neutral to players unless big enough to attack you.
- skeletons now have baby variants, which are god awful at aiming.
- you can now sneak up on a mob or be invisible without alerting them. be careful not to get in their line of sight!
- removed seasons
- this is better for the temperature system
- overhauled the durability system.
- for example, mending now doubles the durability of an item.
visual & audio changes
- fixed music playing on top of each other
- fixed options menu with and without cheats enabled
- renamed and altered the "Online" section.
- this has been renamed to "Online/LAN"
- this also means opening LAN connections is now much easier.
- upon loading ONWARD, you will be asked whether or not you want shaders enabled.
- removed custom animations
- they were a bit buggy with some mobs, something i wasn't very fond of
- hopefully i'll come back around to adding this soon
- the hotbar has been raised slightly
performance
- lag whilst loading the world has been fixed.
- when creating a world however, lag still persists. this i don't plan to fix as later on the game is fine.
- dropped items have a much larger merge radius to help reduce lag.
- added the TT20 mod, which should help when the game server lags.

- alongside this, you can run the command
/fabric tpsto view the server's tps.
other changes
- furnaces explode when smelting gunpowder
- yeah this was too good to pass up on
- tree leaves decay slower
- changed the title screen & mode selection screen slightly
- we now have a new, much better font for ONWARD
- added the text "CHOOSE YOUR MODE" to the mode selection screen
- on top of this, things are now centered and look much better.
- we now have a new and honestly way better logo

merry (early) christmas everyone! i bring to you all the first (and probably the last) update of ONWARD of the year!
⚠️ before you update! ⚠️
i strongly recommend that you back up your worlds & settings and create a new instance of ONWARD for this update. to put it short, there's so much that has changed this update that it could potentially end up affecting your game. just a quick heads up; you might actually be fine!
changelog
gameplay changes
- added the scanner item!
- the scanner is an item that runs off of modules and energy. it can have up to 3 hot-swappable modules and 6 inactive modules, however each module uses up a certain amount of energy.
- added grappling hooks!
- there are various grappling hooks you can craft, such as just your standard rope and hook for a regular grappling hook. OR you can get it motorised, allowing you to grapple towards a particular direction fast!
- the max health that a health orb can carry has increased from 10 to 12.
- added slight more progression.
- this means that skills such as smithing and brewing must be levelled up in order for game progression.
- this does NOT count for skills such as mining, crafting and strength as this would affect gameplay too much.
- you can now change your datapacks & gamerules in-game!
- you must have cheats enabled for this to work.
- many more changes... too many to list! :p
visual & UI changes
- the main menu now has a more polished interface
- alongside this, the options menu has been reverted to the default one.
- added blood.
- added player & mob custom animations!
- added 3D block particles!
- rain droplets now show on the ground whilst it is raining!
- removed "Particular"; the mod was unneeded thanks to Effective.
- kinda the same case here; there's so many changes i can't really list them from the top of my head.
other changes
- various tweaks made
- for example, hearing dripping water should now have a 100% chance of occurring.
- essential mod updated to latest version
- discord rich presence tweaked slightly

- voice chat is now voice activation by default
- this can be changed in plasmo voice settings in-game by pressing [F8] and going to "Activation".

- new default gamerules
- primarily to disable announcing advancements in chat, but will be used for other gamerules too :)
- mini christmas update!
full closure
as of now i feel ONWARD is in a spot where it will do just fine for what it is right now, sure it's not perfect but it's my first ever proper modpack and i'm proud of how it's turned out so far! i will hopefully get around to polishing up the modpack and optimising performance, but for now i suppose enjoy what i've made so far! take care everyone and merry (early) christmas!! :D
